Micropractice
Dr. Arden's practice is a "micropractice." This means that her solo practice employs no assistants or clerical workers. All phone calls and emails are answered directly by Dr Arden, and patients schedule their own appointments using a web-based scheduling system. This allows Dr Arden to provide personal care to all her adolescent patients.
Adolescent Medicine
The specialty of adolescent medicine is devoted to working with teenagers and their families to optimize their health. Adolescent medicine specialists see the teenager as their patient, but understand that the family is an integral part of the teen's life and work to develop a treatment plan reflecting this relationship.
Adolescent Medicine Consultation Practice
Dr Arden's practice is exclusively for patients referred by regular physicians who maintain a primary care relationship with the patient. Dr Arden reports back to the primary care provider regarding the diagnosis and treatment plan, so that your doctor will have a good understanding of your condition and any medications prescribed..
Primary care providers refer their patients to Dr Arden for a variety of adolescent issues, including menstrual disorders, gynecological problems, reproductive health care, eating disorders, obesity, risk-taking behavior, and other adolescent-specific problems.
Confidentiality
As teens grow up, they need more privacy and sometimes engage in activities which their parents do not approve. As a result, adolescents can be reluctant to discuss important health issues with their parents . In order to make sure that they receive appropriate health care for these issues,, New York state health regulations grant teens confidentiality regarding specific concerns, including sexuality, substance use, and mental health issues. Dr Arden respects this confidentiality, but strongly encourages teens to communicate with their parents. Please note that confidentiality will be broken in the case of life-threatening conditions and when the patient poses a risk to herself or others.
Federal HIPAA regulations prevent the sharing of personal health information. Patient information will not be released without written permission. A consultation letter, however, outlining the findings of your visit, will be sent to your referring primary care provider.
Your Initial Visit
The initial visit will take about an hour. After completing forms and providing insurance information, Dr Arden will call the patient and parent/guardian into her consultation room for an interview. After discussion of the reason for the visit, past medical history, and family history, the parent will be asked to wait in the waiting room for the remainder of the interview. After the physical exam, the patient and parent will meet with Dr Arden to discuss the diagnosis and treatment plan.
A parent or guardian should accompany patients who are under 18 years of age to the initial visits, but parents are not required for 18+ year olds or follow-visits for any patients. Nonetheless, it is a good idea for a parent to attend the first visit of 18+ year old patients to provide the past medical history.
Please bring any test results or records related to your visit to your initial visit. Please also bring your insurance card. If your insurance plan requires a referral, please bring the form or other appropriate information.
Your co-pay is expected at the time of the visit. Please note that credit cards are not accepted.
